Stuff.co.nz article on New Zealand's Favourite Artists

This article on stuff.co.nz explains Denis Robinson's aim in publishing the book New Zealand's Favourite Artists 2.

The article explains how 60 artists were selected from over 300 artists that were submitted as best sellers from over 80 galleries, and lists Liam Barr, Jason Hicks, Lawrence Leitch, Emma Wright and myself as a selection of Wellington Artists included in the book.

River Prints

The person who bought my Rangitikei River print has just ordered my Manawatu River print. I intend to explore this avenue further! Rivers have always been an obsession, but I had no idea anyone else would be intrigued! Surprisingly, when studying Google Analytics for my website, the most common Google search word used to find my site is 'Timon Maxey Rivers'. This is even more surprising in the light of having only just started producing river art!

My trip to Auckland and to the Art of this World opening

The book launch combined with the Valerie Beale opening at Art of this World went well. I sold a limited edition print (Wreck at Owenga) and someone has commissioned a life drawing monoprint. I spoke to Denis Robinson regarding my trip to New York and Dubai and he knew of a Gallery in Dubai for which he will email me the details.

I visited Parnell Gallery, while in Auckland, and they have also just sold one of my prints. This is quite a surprise, as they don't exhibit works on paper due to lack of wall space, but only have them in poster bins. They requested that I send them some cubist paintings which they will hang up! On show were some interesting new works by Otis Frizzell, Mike Weston and an exhibition of impressive, realistic water-based scenes by Deborah Tetlow. There was some interesting work by Anne-Sophie Adelys in Letham Gallery featuring mainly animals and birds. A great little gallery with many separate rooms, Letham holds a range of my limited edition prints. I intend sending them some of my new monoprints.

River Prints Prove Popular

I exhibited two rather unusual dendritic river pattern monoprints at Exhibitions Gallery for the NZ's Favourite Artist Exhibition which opened April 10. I am very pleased that one sold and the other is on hold, great incentive for producing more prints of other New Zealand rivers. Perhaps the Waikato, Clutha and Buller rivers would be good to produce as monoprints. I also sold a limited edition print of Harbour Sunset, a spectacular sunset over Wellington Harbour (Port Nicolson).

Art of this World Exhibition

On Saturday 10 May, 3pm, NZ's Favourite Artists Volm 2 will be launched at Art of This World Gallery, Devonport. Artists from the gallery selected for the book will have work exhibited, including myself. There will be light refreshments. Feel free to come along!

I will be showing a cubist landscape of Ponui Island, two life-drawing monoprints and possibly an Auckland limited edition print (this could change).

The launch of NZ's Favourite Artists Volm 2, by Denis Robinson, will be combined with the opening of Matriarchs of the Pacific, a solo show by Valerie Beale.

The other artists selected for the book and on show are Ian Hamlin and Christine Tizard.

New Zealand's Favourite Artists Exhibition

I am exhibiting a range of work, including some new monoprints, in the New Zealand's Favourite Artists exhibition which opened last night, Thursday 10 April, at Exhibitions Gallery (formerly Fishers) in Featherston St, Wellington.

The opening was positively 'buzzing' and was packed with people. The writer of the book, Denis Robinson, gave a great speech and introduced the artists that were present. This included Patterson Parkin, Emma Wright, Tim Wilson, Ian Hamlin and myself.

I received much favourable feedback on my work, including on my new life drawing monoprints and my Dendritic River Pattern monoprints. I was very uncertain about how the river prints would be received, but several people were intrigued enough to come and discuss them with me in depth!
